This Fall Letter Set uses twine and leaves to make the perfect Fall decor for your home.
You might remember the Hello Summer Painted Block Set from The Wood Connection that we painted back in June. We loved it so much that when The Wood Connection asked us to make something fun for their blog we jumped at the chance.
As soon as we saw the Wood Connection’s Large Fall Letter Set we knew we wanted to do something fun with that big leaf! So, Melinda and I headed out in search of fall leaves and twine. We found just the right leaves at Michaels and, BONUS!, we also found twine in matching fall colors. We already had the paint colors we needed in our paint stash so we didn’t have to buy those, but you may need to grab some paint if you don’t have the right colors on hand.
The first step was painting the letters to match the color of the twine we would be wrapping them with. Once the paint was dry we used a little dot of hot glue on the back of the letter to secure the twine and started wrapping the twine around letter. For the little “hook” on the top of the “F” and “L” you will need to cut some shorter pieces of twine and wrap them separately, using hot glue to help you keep everything in place. For the main body of the letters there is no need to hot glue every piece of twine in place, just put a thin line of glue every 10th row (or when you think you need it) and press the twine into it. For the most part you are wrapping the twine tight enough to keep everything in place.
A tip for those tricky curves on the “F” and “L”: Cover the curved end with short pieces of twine, going far enough around the curve to reach the point where you would be able to begin wrapping the twine normally , Then cover up the cut ends by wrapping your twine over them.
We painted the leaf and wrapped the stem in twine before beginning the process of covering it with fall leaves. To get started we placed a leaf at each point and then slowly worked our way in layering the leaves. Once we had it completely covered we were done!
We love how our Fall decor turned out and even better, it was super-simple! We’ve already started thinking about what we could do with the Snow Letter Set 🙂 .
