This Extra Gum Bouquet is a simple way to tell the special people in your life how thankful you are for all they do.
November is here and that means Thanksgiving is just around the corner. I don’t know about you but, for us it is the time of year when you really think about the people in your life, family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, that you are thankful for. We both are so lucky to have so many people in our lives that we can count on. We have awesome families and great friends that are always there to lend a hand or offer support.

Now that Melinda is a mom of a four-year-old and an almost two-year-old she is also extremely thankful for teachers. Sawyer is going to school full-time now, and he spends almost as much time there as he does at home. Every day he comes in from school and tells her about something new he learned that day and talks about how much fun he had playing with his friends. He also talks about what new trouble he and his little buddies got themselves into…those teachers deserve a big “Thank you” for their patience! Being a small business owner, and a full-time toddler-wrangler, Melinda is so thankful that he has teachers who take such good care of him, and are able to spend so much time teaching him what he’ll need to know to start kindergarten next year (OMG, is it really next year?!).
She wanted to show her appreciation to Sawyer’s teachers this month with a small gift and we created these fun “Extra” Special Gum Bouquets in recognition of all they do. For each Extra gum bouquet we used:
- 8 packs of Extra Gum
- paper straws
- 1 8″ x 8″ square vase
- scrapbook paper
- tissue paper
- hot glue
The project was simple, we used an 8″ x 8″ glass vase and lined the inside with scrapbook paper. Then we cut a foam block to fit in the bottom. You want the block to be tall enough to fill half of the vase. For the gum “flowers” we used hot glue to attach the straws to the back of the Extra gum packets.
We stuck the straws down into the foam, pushing some in further than others so the gum was at different heights. Then we cut up some tissue paper and tucked it in between the straws to fill in the gaps and make the whole thing look full.
Once the bouquet was arranged we added a burlap ribbon and a round label that said “You’re ‘EXTRA’ Special”. We created the label in Word, nothing fancy, and we attached the burlap ribbon and the label with a few dots of hot glue.
We all have special people in our lives, and now is a perfect time to take a moment to thank them for all of the extra things they do for you.
