We’ve had a busy summer and snacking has gotten a little out of control. The kids have been cooped up in the house while it has been too hot to spend much time outside, and they have started grabbing a snack while they watch t.v., or play games. I’m guilty of it too. We have so much going on that sometimes I just want something quick and easy, and more often than not that means a less than ideal snack choices. So, last week on my weekly visit to Walmart I made a decision to cut out the junk and fill the house with better snacking options.

I’m lucky, both of my kids love yogurt and they will eat it any way they can get it.  Yoplait® Gogurt® is always on my Walmart shopping list. The kids love that they can easily grab it out of the fridge and eat without needing any help. I even keep some in the freezer for frozen snacks in the summer. There are so many varieties of Yoplait® at Walmart, Original, Light, Greek, Gogurt®, and this time I also added Yoplait® Original to my shopping cart. Since I decided not to buy any chips, or cookies, I wanted to make something for the kids (and me!) that would still have some crunch, and a little sweetness. I love granola and I thought it would be fun for the kids to visit the bulk food bins at the grocery store and make their own mix to use for a yogurt parfait.

The great thing about a granola mix is that you can customize it to fit your tastes. My mix consisted of rolled oats, dried cranberries, banana chips, and dried coconut. I love the flavors mixed into my yogurt and that extra little crunch and chew I get from the dried fruits. The kids made their own flavor combinations including dried mango, and dried pineapple, almonds slices, and rolled oats.

We’re all enjoying the change, the kids have even started asking for their granola and yogurt at snack time rather than a bag of chips. Sometimes we make up a whole parfait using the Yoplait® Original, and sometimes they just grab a Gogurt® and munch on granola. Either way I’m glad we’ve made a bit of a change around here.
