Spring is brunch season and every brunch needs a good Bloody Mary….and maybe some mimosa cupcakes. I’ll tell you the truth, while I’m pretty good at drinking Bloody Marys I’ve never been very good at making them. I never get the seasoning quite right. Recently my friends Nik and Greg started their own business venture making single serve Bloody Mary fixer-uppers called Bloody Awesome packets (no I’m not getting paid for this I just think they are super awesome!). These little packets have everything you need to spice up your Bloody Mary, just open one up, pour it into your tomato juice, and add your vodka! They are great for travel, home or on-the-go.
I fell in love with this idea and it inspired me to try my hand at making my own, unique, Bloody Mary. I am a born and raised Marylander and I thought it would be awesome to make a Maryland Bloody Mary. In Maryland we’re all about crabs and all Marylanders use Old Bay seasoning to steam crabs. Well, not just to steam crabs…if a Maryland dish has crab in it you can bet it is going to have some Old Bay too. I love that flavor and I thought a little Old Bay would go perfectly in a Bloody Mary mix!
All you need are a few ingredients and some Maryland inspired garnishes. I mixed Spicy tomato juice, vodka, Worcestershire sauce, fresh lemon juice, horseradish, fresh ground black pepper, celery seed and the holy grail, Old Bay seasoning together in a pitcher with some ice.
I rubbed a lemon on the rim of my mason jar and dipped it in Old Bay seasoning.
Then I poured myself a glass full and added my garnishes. You can’t have a Maryland Bloody Mary without a crab leg and some mini crab balls!

I can’t think of a better way to enjoy a Bloody Mary, can you?
If you’re on the go or in a hurry and don’t have time to mix up your own fantastic blend just add a packet of Bloody Awesome to some tomato juice!
Have Bloody Awesome day,
I’m not gonna lie, you’re killing me here- I’m 37 weeks pregnant and all I’ve wanted this whole pregnancy is a Bloody Mary (and I LOVE Crab as well!). I’m pinning this to make in a few weeks 🙂
LOL, I don’t know whether to say thank you or apologize ;). I hope you get to try it for Mother’s Day !
Would be great for football season too! Looks really delicious and like a meal. I can’t wait to make these.
Pretty sure any season is great for Bloody Mary’s, lol
Looks so delicious. I can’t wait to try it.
Let us know how it goes. I’ve never tried making mine at home but am willing. I always just get mine online. I found this really nice vegan Bloody Mary over at Lava. Tastes amazing and with absolutely no preservatives added
Can you give us the recipe for the crab balls? I assume they are not the actual reproductive parts of a male crab, but more like a crab cake shaped into a ball on a skewer, lol.
