Fruit infused water is a great way to take plain tap water or bottled water to the next level by adding a punch of flavor naturally to help you stay hydrated without sacrificing flavor.

You know we like a fruity drink. Our pineapple mango smoothie is a delicious way to start the day but we needed something lighter to drink throughout the day.

Instead of adding a bunch of sweeteners and additives to water to give it some flavor we like to jazz our water up the natural way with healthy fruits and herbs.

This super simple watermelon water makes a tasty way to stay hydrated and not have to worry about a ton of extra calories.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Four simple ingredients is all you need. They include:

  • Water – Tap, purified, or filtered, you can use whatever water you like for this.
  • Watermelon – In season is best, but you can make this any time of year since most stores carry it year round.
  • Strawberries – We use fresh strawberries for this, but you could use frozen ones if you thaw them first.
  • Mint leaves – This adds a bit of extra freshness to the flavor.

Instructions

It doesn’t take much to make fruit infused water. Here’s what you need to do.

Step 1 – Chop the fruit. Remove the stems from the strawberries and cut in half. Cut the watermelon into chunks and remove the rind. Place the pieces of fruit into your pitcher.

Step 2 – Crush the mint. Use your fingers to gently break the mint leaves to help release their flavor before adding to the pitcher.

Step 3 – Add the water and let it rest. Once the fruit and mint are ready, fill the pitcher with water, cover, and then let it rest for up to 24 hours. After 24 hours, make sure to remove the fruit and leaves.

Health Benefits of Fruit Infused Water

Strawberry and watermelon infused water can provide a variety of health benefits. But one of the most important benefits may just be that it is a great substitute for sugary drinks. This is especially true for people who can’t stand plain water.

It also provides numerous nutrients, such as vitamins and antioxidants. The reason is that the water absorbs some of the nutrients from the fruit, so you get a lot of the benefits of the fruit just from drinking the water.

And since there is no added sugar, preservatives, or other additives, you can drink as much as you like. When you do, you are likely to stay better hydrated as a result.

How to Make it Ahead of Time

When you follow the instructions above, you can start to drink the water immediately. But you will find that the longer it rests, the more intense the flavor of the fruit becomes.

But you need to keep a few things in mind. First, make sure to cover it before storing in the fridge. Second, you will need to remove the fruit and leaves after 24 hours. This is important to keep the fruit from rotting and ruining the water.

The infused water should last about 3 to 4 days in the fridge. If you have any remaining after 4 days, you should dispose of it and make a fresh batch.

When we make the water, we use this speciality pitcher. It allows you to easily remove the fruit after 24 hours so you don’t have to use a separate strainer.

If you plan to make this for a party or get together, you can make it in this gallon pitcher, complete with a spigot. It is perfect for both making the water and serving it to your guests.
