Sugar Skull Decanter Knock-off
Our Sugar Skull Decanter Knock-off is simple to make and a fraction of the price of the original !
Last year I fell in love with Crate and Barrel’s Morelia Decanter, but I couldn’t justify spending $50 for it when I would only get to use it once a year. When I saw it on their website again this year I decided I had to try to make my own. I’m so glad I did. I was able to make make my own version for only $0.99!
It’s not exactly the same, but for a decoration I’m only going to use during Halloween I think it is a pretty good substitute. It was easy to make, all I needed was:
- A glass bottle = already had
- Black acrylic paint = already had
- Etched glass Vinyl (or contact paper) = already had
- Decorative wine cork = already had
- Sugar skull design = $0.99
- Total = $0.99
I used an empty red wine vinegar bottle that I peeled the label off of and cleaned really well. I poured about 1/3 of a bottle of black paint into the bottle and then slowly turned the bottle until the entire inside was coated. Then I let it dry overnight.
The next day I cut out a sugar skull design, that I bought from the Silhouette Store , with my Silhouette Cameo. I used a small scrap of silver etched vinyl that I already had, but contact paper would also work. Then I put the image on the bottle.
I already had a decorative wine stopper that was perfect so I put it in the bottle and tada! My own sugar skull decanter. I love it :). I can’t wait to get my mantel decorated now!
