Upcycle cans into planters
Upcycle Cans into Planters for your succulents with a few easy steps! This is an easy craft or DIY project for your home, or a fun summer activity for the kids.
Ok I’m officially jumping on the succulent band wagon! These little plants are just too cute to resist, not to mention they can easily survive my less-than-green thumb :). My other new obsession is Blue Diamond flavored almonds. No, this is not a paid advertisement I’m just seriously addicted to these things, especially the Salt’n Vinegar flavor, way better than chips! So, since I have quite the collection of empty almond cans now I decided to turn them into something useful.
Once you peel the label off the can is already a gold color but I grabbed a can of spray paint and gave it a couple of coats of Krylon gold paint just to make it slightly brighter and shinier.
When the paint was dry I brought them in the house and picked out three patterned scrapbook papers, cut them to size and wrapped them around the can, securing them with a couple of dots of hot glue. Then I pulled out my Silhouette Cameo and cut 3 words, Grow With Love, out of white vinyl and centered one on each can. It’s a little hard to see “with” in the pictures but it shows up better in person :).
Planting the succulents was easy. Since there are no drainage holes in the cans I did a layer of gravel in the bottom, then added dirt and planted the succulents and finally added a layer of gravel on the top.
I’m in love…and now everything I look at I try to figure out how I could plant succulents in it, lol!
