What is matcha powder?
I keep seeing matcha powder everywhere and everyone is talking about how good it is for you so I decided to research it a bit and see what all of the fuss is about. I can totally get behind a food trend that tastes good and is good for me!
Matcha powder is specially grown and processed green tea that has been ground into a fine powder. Many matcha drinkers say that compared to the caffeine buzz from coffee, matcha make you feel alert and calm due to a natural substance it contains called l-theanine, which induces relaxation without drowsiness. Sounds amazing, right? You may be able to convince me to ditch my coffee if I can still get the same effect plus added health benefits!
What are the health benefits of matcha powder?
Some of the health benefits are a boost to your metabolism, a high concentration of antioxidants, rich in fiber, chlorophyll and vitamins. I did find a downside. All green teas, even organically grown ones, contain trace amounts of lead. So don’t go crazy with it. Even with superfoods, you can get too much of a good thing. Look for pure, organic, quality matcha, and enjoy it in moderation. I would definitely say the good out weighs the bad!
