Dr Pepper® BBQ Chicken Dip is creamy, cheesy, full of chicken, and topped with sweet homemade Dr Pepper BBQ sauce — all baked together for the ultimate game day appetizer!
It’s football season!! That means my weekends are spent cheering on my team with friends and family…it also means I have to step up my snack game to keep those hungry fans happy :). This super easy Dr Pepper BBQ Chicken Dip has the sweet, smoky taste of Dr Pepper BBQ sauce melted into a creamy, cheesy dip that no one can resist.
I love hosting parties, but I also love watching the game, so my game day recipes have to be delicious and easy to make. Bonus points for things I can make ahead of time. My Dr Pepper BBQ Chicken Dip checks all of the boxes. It starts with Dr Pepper. It’s my favorite halftime drink AND you can make a pretty awesome BBQ sauce with it!
This Dr Pepper BBQ Chicken Dip is all about the homemade Dr Pepper bbq sauce, and it’s super easy to make. It starts with a ketchup base, then add a 12-ounce can of Dr Pepper, apple cider vinegar, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, mustard powder, Worcestershire, and a little liquid smoke to give it that grilled bbq flavor.
How to Make Dr Pepper BBQ Sauce:
- In a saucepan, whisk all ingredients together until they are well combined.
- Bring to a boil, whisking constantly, and then reduce to a simmer and let cook, stirring occasionally for 20 minutes.
- Remove from heat and it’s ready to be used.
TIP: Save yourself some time on game day and make the Dr Pepper BBQ Sauce earlier in the week. Just let it cool completely before placing it in a sealed container and storing it in the refrigerator.
Once you have your bbq sauce, it’s time to make the dip. It couldn’t be any easier; you just combine shredded mozzarella cheese and cheddar cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, Dr Pepper BBQ Sauce, and of course chicken. Stir them all together, put them in an 8×8 casserole dish or an 8-inch cast iron skillet, add a little more cheese, and bake until everything is hot and bubbling.
Tip: Want to save time? Instead of cooking chicken and shredding it, pick up a rotisserie chicken at the grocery store. Then all you have to do is shred it and you’re good to go!

Looks delicious! I’m going to make it low carb by using diet Dr. Please and skipping the brown sugar.
How long have you stored the BBQ sauce in the fridge? I would assume it would keep for a few months. Which is very handy if you want to eat the dip all.the.time!!! Lol
Just afraid to store it and count on it when I should really make a new batch of sauce each time. Don’t want anyone to get sick. Don’t really see it going bad.
Thanks 😊
