This party took ice cream party to the next level with a make-your-own Milkshake and Float Bar.

This milkshake and float bar was so fun! The kids and adults all loved picking out their favorite ice cream treats and toppings and creating their own milkshake or float. It was a great idea for an ice cream party.

Ok, I think this may be one of my favorite parties ever (it’s amazing how your idea of an awesome party changes as you get older isn’t it? LOL)! I’ll admit I may be biased because it involved making my own custom milkshakes and floats, which happen to be one of favorite desserts…but all of our guests loved it too, even our furry family members!

Last weekend we had one of the first really hot weekends of the year and instead of working all day or hanging out indoors when it was so gorgeous out Melinda came up with a simple, party idea and invited over friends and their pets for an impromptu milkshake and float party. I’m telling you it may be one of her all-time best ideas!

polka-dot garland

We kept the decoration simple but I think they turned out so cute. We threw a white tablecloth over her kitchen table and added a pink and white runner that I had from the sprinkle we threw her. Then we made a simple polka dot garland by using a 1″ circle hole punch to cut out circles from different colors of scrapbook paper. We punch smaller holes at the top and bottom of each circle and threaded them on to a piece of twine and hung them up to around the table. We also made adorable, if I do say so myself, food labels (you can download them at the end of the post) that would work for any ice cream party.

Forget the decorations though, the make-your-own milkshake and float bar was the best part! We bought SNICKERS® Ice Cream Bars, and M&M’s® Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches for the milkshakes. It was Melinda’s genius idea and OMG, they were soooo good in a milkshake! We also had Skittles®, M&M’s® Plain, Starburst® Minis Unwrapped, and sprinkles as mix-ins for the shakes. Of course we found everything at Walmart, along with vanilla ice cream and Dr Pepper® Cherry for the floats, and Pedigree Dentastix® Original Flavor for our furry guests. Don’t forget to download the Blippar app from your Apple or Android store to scan your package and receive exclusive content!

We let each guest choose SNICKERS® Ice Cream Bars or  M&M’s® Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches (I’ll be honest some of us chose both) and whatever mix-ins they wanted and then we put them in a blender with some milk and a scoop, or two, of vanilla ice cream. We also had ice cream already scooped and ready to go in mason jars for the floats. All guests had to do was unscrew the lid, pour in a little Dr Pepper® Cherry and add a straw. Yum!!

As the milkshakes and floats were prepared we sent the kids, adults, and dogs outside to sit in the sunshine and enjoy them. It was a perfect day for it and the kids ran around outside for hours while us adults drank milkshakes and basked in the sun.

Don’t think our furry guests were left out! We made Pedigree Dentastix® ice cubes for them and the loved it. All we did was cut up a Pedigree Dentastix® Original Flavor into pieces small enough to fit in an ice cube tray, then filled it with water and let it freeze overnight. The dogs loved it and the kids loved giving them the treats. milkshake_download
We had so much fun. The party was simple to set up, the shakes and floats were a hit and at the end of the day there was hardly any clean-up, that’s my kind of party.  Make sure you download the food labels above and arrange to have some people over for an ice cream party this summer!
