Founded by best friends Kat and Melinda in March 2014, Home. Made. Interest. has grown to over 700K+ followers. Although they come from very different backgrounds—Kat is a southern girl, and Melinda is Portuguese—they share a passion for bringing families and friends together through the universal language of food.

Their years of experimentation, learning, and triumphs in the kitchen have equipped them with invaluable insights, from mastering the art of weeknight dinners to executing elaborate feasts for the holidays!

At Home. Made. Interest. we are committed to sharing recipes that are not only delicious but also well-tested and achievable. Rest assured, we don’t share anything with you that we haven’t tested and re-tested in our own kitchens with our friends and families.

Meet the Chefs

Kat

Kat Jeter is a co-founder, recipe developer, and editor at Home. Made. Interest.. Her culinary passion began in childhood when she would help her grandma make her amazing southern dishes like her Southern Pecan Pie, delicious Hushpuppies, and Blackberry Cobbler and has continued through to adulthood.

Her curiosity and love for food inspired her to develop her culinary skills with cooking classes taken all around the world and spending hours in her kitchen in Laurel, Maryland, learning through trial, error, and triumph!

From her first dinner party where she made her signature red wine braised short ribs, Kat has honed her talent for hosting events and she enjoys passing on all the lessons she has learned about simplifying a menu in a way that ensures the host not only serves an unforgettable meal but also gets to enjoy time with friends and family.

Melinda

Melinda Machado is a co-founder, recipe developer, and editor at Home. Made. Interest.. She is a first-generation Portuguese-American, brings the rich, aromatic flavors of her heritage into her kitchen in Bethesda, Maryland. As a mother of two, Melinda’s recipes blend her cultural heritage with modern tastes for busy family lives.

Melinda has worked in the restaurant industry for the majority of her adult life and owned her own business for more than 10 years before selling it to have more time to spend with her family.

While her professional experience gives her a leg up Melinda’s real passion for cooking comes from growing up in a Portuguese household and spending hours in the kitchen with her mom and aunts making traditional Portuguese recipes like Caldo Verde and Queijadas de Leite. They even make homemade chouriço every fall!
