Ingredients You’ll Need
A ham and cheese bake only requires a few simple ingredients. Toss it all together and bake for a delicious breakfast casserole!
- English Muffins – I use regular English muffins but you could use whole wheat if you prefer.
- Ham – You can use leftover ham, ham steak, or cubed ham from the grocery store. We cut ours into cubes, but you can just chop it up into bite-size pieces. No precision required!
- Cheddar Cheese – Shredded cheddar cheese goes perfectly with eggs and ham!
- Eggs – The eggs bring the whole dish together, literally. The eggs in this dish bake around all of the ingredients so you can cut and serve.
- Heavy Cream – Heavy cream, or whipping cream, adds a little extra creaminess to the casserole. You can substitute with milk if needed.
- Salt and Pepper – A little sprinkle brings out the flavor in the dish.

Step 4 – Make eggs. In a bowl combine eggs, heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Whisk until thoroughly combined.
Step 5 – Put it all together. Pour the egg mixture over the casserole making sure to cover all of it.
Step 6 – Bake. Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and place in the oven to bake for 45 minutes. Then remove foil and continue to bake for 15 minutes.

How to Make Ahead of Time
This make ahead breakfast casserole is perfect for the holidays because you just throw all of the ingredients together and then pop it in the oven. There isn’t a lot of prep work and what little cutting you need to do can be done the night before.
Assemble the ham, cheese, and English muffins together in a casserole dish before going to bed and in the morning you whip the eggs and cream together and pour it over everything in the dish and it’s ready to bake.
Super easy great for Christmas morning or New Year’s Day when you want to serve something nice but don’t want to wake up at the crack of dawn to do it.

Thank you for this recipe. Used leftover ham from last night’s Easter dinner. For the cheese, I used a Swiss/Gruyere mix. Sprinkled a little Italian Seasoning on top before baking. This was enjoyed by all. Will definitely make this again and use different meats to switch it up.
I plan to make this with Keto English muffins. Franz bakery makes them. This would be a good recipe for lo-carbers – just substitute with Keto muffins. I plan to add in some sauteed onions. Sounds yummy!
Awesome idea!!
I never met an egg bake I liked…until now! Husband requested egg bake for X-Mas morning. Reluctantly scoured internet and found this recipe. It is superb! Very customizable. I lightly toasted muffins first. Added Dijon/green onions to egg mix and a seasoned cornflake topping. Thanks for converting me!
I’m so happy to hear you liked it! This is one of my favorites!
