What Goes in a Raspberry Martini?
Get your martini glass and cocktail shaker set ready, you’re making raspberry cocktails tonight!
You don’t need much for these drinks, just:
- Raspberry simple syrup – See the ingredients for this below.
- Cranberry juice – Helps add some tartness and a bit of sweetness, but also really gives the drink a pinkish-red hue.
- The Good Stuff – For the alcohol, you’ll need Dry Vermouth and either gin or vodka.
- Ice – This drink is served cold.
- Fresh Raspberries – Fresh raspberries add some flavor and garnish. If you’re making this for Valentine’s Day buy some extra and make raspberry mousse red velvet cake!
To help add sweetness, we use a simple sugar syrup. Here’s what you need for that:
- Sugar – We use white, granulated sugar for this.
- Water – You can use tap, spring, or filtered water.
- Fresh raspberries – Fresh raspberries work best but you can use frozen if you prefer.
How to Make a Raspberry Martini
Step 1 – Make the simple syrup. In a small saucepan, combine the syrup ingredients and use a spoon to lightly crush the raspberries.
Bring the ingredients to a simmer over medium heat. Once it starts to simmer, let it cook for about 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and pour into a cup through a fine mesh strainer. This helps remove any remaining grains of sugar that might otherwise make it into the drink.
Let it cool completely. If you make a larger batch, you can store it in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Step 2 – Make the martini. Add the raspberry simple syrup, cranberry juice, dry vermouth, vodka, and ice to a cocktail shaker. Shake together for 10 seconds.
Using a cocktail strainer, pour the drink into a martini glass. Garnish with fresh raspberries and serve immediately.
What is a Simple Syrup?
A simple syrup is 1 part water and 1 part sugar. The water is heated to allow the sugar to dissolve into the liquid more easily and quickly.
In this recipe, we added some fresh raspberries. The addition gives the syrup a raspberry flavor.
A simple syrup is great for a drink because it creates a smooth, liquid sweetener. When added to the drink, you won’t see the syrup, but you’ll taste the sweetness. And you won’t have grainy bits of sugar like you would if you tried to add it directly to the drink.
Is a Martini Gin or Vodka?
Martinis are traditionally made with gin. If you are a purest or traditionalist like us, then go with gin. But for a slightly smoother, more modern tone, use vodka. Either way, you’ll have a delicious drink ready to serve your sweetheart or guests.
