Cranberry jalapeño cream cheese dip is what happens when our fresh cranberry salsa meets a cloud of whipped cream cheese on a big platter. It’s tart, sweet, and creamy with a mild jalapeño kick, and it never goes near the oven.

We make our cranberry salsa during the holidays every year and as much as we love it we knew it was even better with cream cheese, so we turned that pairing into a quick party dip. Because it’s served cold, it takes one thing off the holiday to-do list instead of fighting the turkey for oven space.
The topping chills while you handle everything else, and assembly takes a couple of minutes. We skip the bowl and spread it across a platter, the same way we serve our 5 layer Greek dip and layered egg salad dip. A wide, thin layer means every cracker gets cream cheese and cranberries, instead of the topping running out halfway down a deep dish. Using whipped cream cheese means there’s no waiting for a brick to soften on the counter. It spreads straight from the fridge.

Ingredients You’ll Need
- Fresh cranberries: The tart, crunchy base of the topping. Rinse them and pick out any soft or shriveled berries before chopping.
- Sugar: Takes the sharp edge off raw cranberries and draws out a little juice so the topping turns glossy as it chills.
- Jalapeños: Removing the ribs and seeds keeps the heat gentle. The cream cheese cools things down even more.
- Cilantro: Adds a fresh, herby note. If cilantro tastes soapy to you, flat-leaf parsley is the easiest swap.
- Green onions: Bring a mild oniony bite and more green color without the sharpness of raw yellow onion.
- Orange juice and lime juice: Freshly squeezed is worth it here. The orange adds a warm sweetness and the lime keeps everything bright.
- Whipped cream cheese: Lighter and more spreadable than block cream cheese, and it’s ready to use cold. That makes it easier to scoop with a cracker without breaking it.
How to Make Cranberry Jalapeño Cream Cheese Dip
Step 1 – Chop the cranberries. Pulse the cranberries in a food processor in short bursts until they’re finely chopped. Stop when there are no whole berries left and the pieces look like small red confetti. If you see a smooth red paste forming, you’ve gone too far. You want texture, not purée.

Step 2 – Sweeten. Move the chopped cranberries to a bowl and stir in the sugar until it’s evenly mixed in.
Step 3 – Add the fresh stuff. Stir in the jalapeños, cilantro, green onions, orange juice, and lime juice until the green flecks are spread evenly through the red.
Step 4 – Chill. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. When it’s ready, the topping will look glossier and slightly juicier, and the raw-cranberry tartness will have mellowed.
Step 5 – Spread the base. Spread the whipped cream cheese onto a platter or into a bowl. A spatula or the back of a spoon makes nice swoops. Leave a little border around the edge so the topping has room.
Step 6 – Top it. Spoon the cranberry jalapeño mixture over the cream cheese.
Step 7 – Chill until serving. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until you’re ready to serve. Serve cold with crackers or chips.

Expert Tips & Tricks
- Pulse, then check. Food processors chop fast, and the line between “finely chopped” and “cranberry sauce” is a couple of seconds. Pulse two or three times, look, and repeat.
- Leave the extra juice behind. Spoon the topping on with a slotted spoon so the pink juice stays in the bowl and doesn’t pool around the cream cheese.
- Keep the topping in the middle. Leaving a border of cream cheese around the edge stops juice from running onto the platter and gives guests a clean edge to dip from.
Make Ahead Instructions
This dip is built for making ahead. Make the cranberry topping a day or two before your party and keep it covered in the fridge. Give it a stir before using, since it gets juicier as it sits. On party day, spread the whipped cream cheese, spoon the topping over, and keep it covered in the fridge until guests arrive.
Variations & Customizations
- Milder or hotter (simple swap): Use one jalapeño for less heat, or leave some seeds in for more.
- Parsley instead of cilantro (simple swap): Same amount, finely chopped.
- Crunchy finish (simple swap): Sprinkle chopped toasted pecans over the top right before serving.
- Block cream cheese (changes texture and prep): Two softened 8-ounce bricks work, but you’ll need to let them sit out to soften first. The base will be denser and firmer to scoop.
What to Serve With Cranberry Jalapeño Cream Cheese Dip
Sturdy crackers are the best match, so the cream cheese doesn’t snap them. Butter crackers, wheat crackers, and pita chips all work, and tortilla chips lean into the salsa side of things. For a holiday appetizer table, set it next to our cranberry cheeseball for a sweet-and-savory pair. It also fits right onto a Christmas charcuterie board as the one creamy, scoopable spot.
Storage & Reheating
Cover leftover dip tightly with plastic wrap, or move it to an airtight container, and refrigerate. Eat it within 3 to 4 days. The topping keeps releasing juice, so spoon off any liquid before serving again. This dip is served cold, so there’s no reheating.
We don’t recommend freezing the assembled dip, because cream cheese turns grainy once it thaws.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, but thaw them first and drain off the liquid before pulsing. Frozen berries come out softer and juicier than fresh. Expect a looser topping, and plan to drain it again before spooning it over the cream cheese.
With the ribs and seeds removed, the heat is mild. Most people notice a gentle warmth that the cream cheese softens even more. Because heat varies from pepper to pepper, taste a tiny piece of jalapeño before adding it all.
Because it’s dairy-based, follow the USDA’s 2-hour rule and don’t leave it at room temperature for more than 2 hours, or 1 hour if it’s above 90°F. Learn more about the USDA’s “Danger Zone” guidance. For a long party, set out half and keep the rest chilled to swap in later.
Spoon it onto a turkey sandwich, or use it in our turkey panini with brie and cranberry the day after Thanksgiving. It’s also good spooned over grilled chicken or pork.
