What is in Keto Big Mac Casserole?
- Seasoned Ground beef
- Onion
- Two types of cheese, cream cheese and cheddar cheese
- Dill relish
- Eggs
- Heavy cream
Is Relish Low Carb/Keto?
Dill relish is low carb and keto. Sweet relish is not. If you can’t find dill relish in your grocery store you can finely chop dill pickles to make your own.
How to Make Keto Big Mac Casserole:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium high heat. This will take approximately 10 minutes. After cooking for about 7 minutes add the diced onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of pepper. Continue to cook the ground beef for 3 minutes, or until ground beef is cooked through.
- Transfer the ground beef to a strainer and let the excess fat drain out before placing the beef back in the pan.
- Add cream cheese to the ground beef and heat over medium low heat until the cream cheese has melted and coats the beef.
- Remove the mixture from the heat and stir in the dill relish.
- Scoop the beef mixture into an 11×7 inch casserole dish and set aside.
- In a small bowl whisk together eggs, heavy cream, remaining 1 teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of pepper.
- Pour the egg mixture over the ground beef gently shaking the casserole dish so the egg mixture is evenly distributed.
- Top with the grated cheese.
- Place the dish in the oven to bake for 30 minutes or until the casserole is set.
- While the casserole bakes make your Big Mac sauce by whisking all of the ingredients together in a small bowl.
- When the casserole comes out of the oven drizzle it with the Big Mac sauce before serving.
Can You Freeze Big Mac Casserole?
Yes, this simple ground beef casserole freezes really well. I like to divide mine up into individual portions before placing them in freezer-safe containers and freezing. This way I can grab a quick meal when needed which helps me live my best low carb life ;).
To reheat the casserole just place the frozen portion on a plate and microwave for 2-3 minutes or until heated through.

How much dill relish do you add to the meat? There isn’t an amount listed only for the sauce.
Hi Lauri, that was a typo the recipe has been corrected to show the relish is only in the sauce.
How much dill pickles relish do u add to the cooked ground beef
Hi Lisa, that was a typo, the dill relish is only in the sauce. Thank you for letting us know. The recipe has been updated.
Why do recipes say to drain meat after adding onions and seasoning? I always drain my meat then cook with onions and seasoning. Wouldn’t you be draining the flavor?
Hi Barbie, you can drain the meat before adding the onions and seasoning if you prefer.
Hi Lauri, the dill relish is for the special sauce. I’m sure it would taste delicious in the ground beef as well.
Do you have to use the egg mixture?!
The egg mixture just helps with binding things together so you can skip it if you can’t have eggs. You could add a little extra cheese to help bind.
this Keto Big Mac Casserole is out of this world!
had it for dinner and it is a keeper!
Was good
What’s the serving size?
About 5 ounces.
Can you recommend something other than mayo to use in the sauce?
I haven’t tried it for this recipe but I often use greek yogurt or sour cream in place of mayonnaise. You could give those a try. It will change the taste a little though.
Making this tonight and excited to try. Do you put dill relish in meat or sauce? It’s contradictory in the recipe..
You’re right, the dill relish for the beef mixture was missing. I’ve corrected the recipe. Dill relish is in the beef mixture and in the sauce.
About how many servings does this dish make? Should I make it in a 9×13 glass dish or is that to big? Also what if you don’t have the dill relish is it ok taste wise if you leave it out??? Thank you!!!
I think the dill relish makes a difference in the flavor of the big mac sauce. You can leave it out of the casserole. You can make it in a 9×13 inch casserole dish it will just not be as thick.
This casserole is amazing!! The whole family loved it!!
Just made this and it’s excellent! I didn’t have pickle relish so I chopped up Claussen Dill Pickles I had in the fridge. Thanks for sharing, I love it!
Wow, this great! Better than even expected. My husband also loved it, despite being very skeptical and having a general aversion towards any recipe that tries to mimic his high-carb favorite foods. He was pleasantly surprised and went back for a second helping. I topped this with shredded iceberg lettuce which was an excellent addition.
As a note, I saw that in the comments you told others that the typo which called for relish in the meat mixture was fixed, but it is still in the directions for me. Luckily I read the comments first so I did not include it! Thought it sounded odd in there when I read it the first time around.
I’m so glad you both liked it! We do include dill relish in the casserole mix (as well as in the sauce). Originally it was listed in the ingredients but it wasn’t in the instructions so we corrected that. It’s totally fine to leave it out though!
I’m wanting to try making this tonight but can’t get dill relish in my area. How do you make your own?..
Finely chopped or minced dill pickles will work.
Excellent recipe! Not only does it taste great and like the real thing, its easy to prepare. Had craving for Big Mac and fries while on keto diet and this recipe has cured it.
Thank you for sharing!

Tried this recipe last night. Very good and will make again. Just for the two of us so halved the recipe. Thanks for the thoughtful recipes.
Step 5 where it says to stir in dill pickle relish is there supposed to be a substitution because of the mistake or no? Thanks
Hi Amanda, in step 5 you stir in the 2 tablespoons of dill relish listed in the ingredients. You will use another 4 tablespoons of dill relish in the Big Mac Sauce.
Is it really 5g of carbs per serving? 50g of carbs for the entire thing, since there is 10 servings?
What if you dont have white wine vinegar
Apple cider vinegar or regular white vinegar will work as well. If you don’t have either use the pickle juice from the dill relish! 🙂
This is awful. No one in my family would eat it.
After getting this comment I decided to remake this recipe since we haven’t had it in awhile. It’s unfortunate that you did not like this. My whole family loved it and had seconds. It tastes exactly like a McDonald’s Big Mac minus the bread. The secret sauce is amazing!
This was a really good cheeseburger recipe, however BigMac sauce is close to1,000 island or sandwich spread. My sauce tasted heavily “mustardy”. I probably did something wrong
Hi Oscar, this is actually the same recipe that McDonald’s shared but you could try it with less mustard to see if you liked that better.
Made this tonight for my family, and it was devoured!
Wasn’t sure how it would go since we’re in the process of going low carb.
Can’t wait to make again!
I don’t get why you’d brown the meat and all the seasonings just to drain them. Makes more sense to brown and drain the meat, then add the stuff.
We prefer to cook the meat in the seasonings. You can drain then season if you’d like.
Can half & half be used instead of heavy cream?
Yes you can use half and half.
Casserole’s ok, but it needs six eggs instead of four to work. The Big Mac sauce is just bad – the proportions of spice to mayo, etc are way off, and it just tastes like sour, bitter mustard. I used about 1/4 more mayo an two tablespoons of sugar-free mustard to cut some of the bitterness/sourness.
Even my picky eater loved this…. served the sauce on the side for those and everyone enjoyed this!! Will be adding this into my rotation.
This came out good! The only thing is that it was a little too salty, maybe next time I’ll cut the salt measurements in half. I also added a little bit of sugar substitute to the “mac sauce” to make it taste more like the real thing. Thank you for this recipe!
Family favorite! Nobody could tell it’s keto friendly. Thank you!!
Hello, just wanted you to know that when I “jump” to the recipe, it still calls for the dill relish in the meat.
Hi Erica, yes there are instructions for the casserole and also the Big Mac sauce. Both have dill relish.
Step 5 says stir dill relish into the ground beef. How much? Am I reading it wrong? If so I apologize. Sounds delish. Can’t wait to try it.
Hi Cindy, it is 2 tbsp of dill relish in the ground beef and then more for the big mac sauce.
This was delicious! Super easy way to feed a big family burgers without standing over the grill. Do you think it could be made the night before so it could be a easy dish for someone to slide in the oven the next day?
Loved this meal, but used minced fresh garlic fir the meat! I am going to try cabbage next time with the mixture to see if it taste like a lettuce!
