What is in a Big Mac Casserole?

  • Ground beef – When making keto recipes we usually choose an 80/20 ground beef but you can you a lean ground beef if you prefer.
  • Seasonings – Worcestershire, garlic powder, salt and pepper add lots of flavor to the ground beef.
  • Onion – A little chopped onion gives the ground beef that big mac flavor we love.
  • Cheese – Two types of cheese, cream cheese and cheddar cheese, and mixed into the casserole.
  • Dill relish – Make sure the relish is Dill and not sweet pickle relish as sweet relish has added sugar you don’t want in a keto recipe.
  • Eggs – The eggs don’t add any flavor but they help to bind the casserole together.
  • Heavy cream – The cream is combined with the eggs and stirred into the beef to help hold together the casserole.
  • Big Mac Sauce – Mayonnaise, dill pickle relish, yellow mustard, white wine vinegar, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder are whisked together into the creamy, tangy, special sauce we all love!

How to Make Keto Big Mac Casserole:

Step 1 – Prepare oven. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 – Cook the meat. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium high heat. This will take approximately 10 minutes. After cooking for about 7 minutes add the diced onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of pepper. Continue to cook the ground beef for 3 minutes, or until ground beef is cooked through.

Transfer the ground beef to a strainer and let the excess grease drain out before placing the beef back in the pan.

Step 3 – Cream cheese. Add cream cheese to the ground beef and heat over medium low heat until the cream cheese has melted and coats the beef.

Step 4 – Relish. Remove the mixture from the heat and stir in the dill relish.

Step 5 – Add eggs. Scoop the ground beef mixture into an 11×7 inch baking dish and set aside. In a small bowl whisk together eggs, heavy cream, remaining 1 teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of pepper.

Pour the egg mixture over the ground beef gently shaking the casserole dish so the egg mixture is evenly distributed.

Step 6 – More cheese. Top with the grated cheese.

Step 7 – Bake. Place the dish in the oven to bake for 30 minutes or until the casserole is set.

Step 8 – Big Mac sauce. While the casserole bakes make your Big Mac sauce by whisking all of the ingredients together in a small bowl. When the casserole comes out of the oven drizzle it with the Big Mac sauce before serving.

Step 9 – Serve. Let rest for 15 minutes and then serve. You can serve it as is or cook some shredded cabbage and serve over the cabbage. You can also top it with your favorite burger toppings.

Is Relish Low Carb/Keto?

Dill relish is low carb and keto. Sweet relish is not. If you can’t find dill relish in your grocery store you can finely chop dill pickles to make your own.

Can You Freeze Big Mac Casserole?

Yes, this simple ground beef casserole freezes really well. I like to divide mine up into individual portions before placing them in freezer-safe containers and freezing. This way I can grab a quick meal when needed which helps me live my best low carb life ;).

To reheat the casserole just place the frozen portion on a plate and microwave for 2-3 minutes or until heated through.
