Low Carb Cheese Waffle

One of the things that I find the most difficult about eating low carb is resisting cravings for delicious carb-y appetizers like breadsticks. Sometimes you just want ooey gooey cheese dipped in marinara sauce. Am I right? If you feel my pain then you’re going to love today’s recipe for Low Carb Cheese Waffles. This low carb cheese waffle is super easy to make, crisp on the outside and ooey gooey on the inside. It’s guaranteed to put an end to those pesky carb cravings. The secret to this fried cheese substitute is Halloumi cheese. It is a firm cheese that can be fried and grilled without falling a part. Think of all the possibilities! You can fry Halloumi cheese in a skillet but my favorite, easy way is to cook it in a waffle maker. I bet you never thought you’d use that again after you gave up carbs, right? Well dust off your waffle maker, turn it on and spray it well because we’re making low carb cheese waffles! While the waffle maker is heating up cut the Halloumi cheese in 1/2 inch slices. I was able to make two waffles from an 8 oz block of cheese. Place one slice in the corner of the waffle maker and close the lid.
After a few minutes, you will have the perfect low carb waffle! You want it to be golden brown like this so you will have a cheesy gooey center. You can keep checking it while it’s in the waffle maker without worries, it will not ruin it. Voila, it’s that easy! Now you just have to decide how you want to enjoy it.
I poured tomato sauce on top of mine. You can also cut the low carb waffle into strips with sauce on the side for a delicious low carb appetizer.
Low Carb Cheese Waffle
- 8 oz Halloumi cheese
- 1/4 cup Pasta sauce, optional
- Spray the inside of the waffle maker with nonstick spray.
- Let the waffle maker heat up.
- Cut Halloumi cheese into 1/2 inch thick slices.
- Place slice in one corner of the waffle maker.
- Let it cook for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve immediately.
