Quick and Easy Crab Ball Appetizer
These Quick and Easy Crab Balls are one of my go-to party appetizers because it is so simple to make and it takes less than 20 minutes to make from start to finish.

How to Make Crab Balls:
- In a large bowl combine all of the ingredients except the crab meat.
- Gently fold the crab meat into the mixture trying to break up the lumps of crab meat as little as possible
- Roll the mixture into golf ball size balls (approximately 1 ounce each).
- Place each ball on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
- Place the baking sheet in the oven on a rack approximately 6-10 inches from the heating element. Broil on high for 7-10 mins until golden brown. Keep a close eye on them, they can burn easily.
Can You Freeze Crab Balls?
Yes. After placing your crab balls on the baking sheet place it in the freezer and let freeze for 30 minutes. Then remove from the freezer and place the balls in an airtight container with parchment paper between each each layer of crab balls.
Return them to the freezer until ready to use.
How Do You Cook Frozen Crab Balls?
Remove the crab balls from the freezer and place them on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Let them thaw for 1 hour.
Once thawed place them in the oven and bake on BROIL for 7-10 minutes or until golden brown on the outside and warmed through on the inside.

Thanks Blair! Yes, anything to shave off time is a big help 🙂
These look amazing! Pinning to use over the holidays! Thanks!
I have served crab balls before (different recipe) but my son suggested apricot jam instead of cocktail sauce and it was a terrific change and very delicious. I hope you will give it a try.
Thanks Donna I am going to try that!
OH NUMMY! I have so got to try this my husband would love it and so would I for that matter. 🙂 I have a recipe linky today and a social media boost too, but mine is for Pinterest today. Won’t you come and join us and bring one of your recipes??? have a great weekend.

I love crabcakes. These would be awesome for an appetizer. Pinned and going to try.
ummm yes please!!!! Thank you for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop xo
It’s easy to understand why your recipe is one of the most-viewed tonight at Foodie Friday–just fabulous!
Hello!! Just wanted to let you know I will be using this in a round up (posting soon) from the Teach Me Tuesday party! Very much appreciate you linking up with us 😉
Thanks so much Bobbi!
The printables are brilliant (thank you, Kat).
These are seriously awesome appetizers to serve up at a party. Love the fact that they are a little bit different too….and yummy!
Thanks for linking up to Marvelous Monday on Smart Party Planning.
Love the printables, these look absolutely delicious!
Thank you for posting to Motivation Monday!
Can’t wait to give this a try for our New Years party!! Thanks also for the awesome printables !!
Never liked the saltine, ritz, or plain old bread crumb recipes. Crushed stove top makes it. Used finely chopped scallions because that’s what I had instead of parsley and they were terrific! Husband said he could eat these all day.
That’s great! Glad you enjoyed them.
I HATE it, HATE it, HATE it when people make comments about how they are GOING to try a recipe and how yummy it sounds.
The comment area is for those who tryed the recipe and what their thoughts/comments are about the recipe, what worked for them, AFTER the recipe.
There were over 12 people commenting about this recipe. 10 didn’t even try making it but 2 did…thank you Donna, Katherine, and Cynthia for your “true” comments–that’s what’s helpful ladies. I did try the suggestion Donna’s son made about the apricot jam as well. These crab balls work well with any dip you choose, they are THAT good !!!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE —Don’t waste our time telling us about “oh, looks and sounds good” etc. not here or any other sites.
We are all busy and just want to get to the “meat” of the comments.
Thank You !!!
Now for the recipe comments:
I made this awesome recipe. I didn’t change a thing, nor would I !!!
There are only a few ingredients needed, prep time is minimal.
Greased cookie sheets are a must, and I do cover cookie sheets with foil for simple/easy clean up.
The PAM spray “Butter Me-UP” worked well but I do prefer gliding the stick of butter across the foiled covered cookie sheets then placing the crab ball on the butter.
Watch carefully and remove from oven when it’s got that golden crusty brown look. As a hostess, these crab balls made me look like a world class chef !!!
Now you enjoy, and Thank You for the recipe.
I’m so glad you tried them and liked them! Melinda came up with the idea as a quick way to make crab balls and we both loved how they turned out! I’m glad we could help make you look good ;).
Great feedback, thank you!
MeMe I love you, bout time somebody told people that they are not relevant because they like the looks of a recipe. Like you I look for what could upgrade a good recipe to make it great or not to touch it because it is perfect. Think about it people , who cares what you think if you have not even tried the recipe. I consider this recipe perfect and thank-you Kat & Melinda.
Thanks so much! That totally made my day 🙂
I made these today and they were just ok. I’d add a shake of salt, reduce the breadcrumb by half or more, and go with egg whites. Limp crab would be best but I had a can of claw and it tasted fine. If you like spicy add cayenne to taste.
Always love trying something new. These crab ball sound delicious and best of all quick and easy. Can’t wait to try them.
Let us know how they turned out when you make them. Enjoy!
I’m using an old oven and don’t trust the broiler. Can I bake them instead, or would that dry them out?
I think baking at a high temp would be fine. Just keep an eye on them.
So good… just picked crabs and had 1 pound and 2 ounces… I didn’t want a cracker or fried recipe… so I tried yours…. so good… I did add a little worcershire to the mix… I had to add another egg because it wouldn’t stay together…. after I pulled out the first pan I tasted one and decided to add a few shakes of hot sauce… OMG…. such a good recipe… thank you…
I’m so glad you liked them!!
So just to be clear, you do not cook the stuffing first? Wouldn’t the Stove Top stuffing crushed make the balls crunchy just broiling them? And would these be good with a lemon aioli sauce? Thanks in advance!
Hi Betsy, correct DO NOT cook the stuffing. Put all the ingredients in a bowl, mix and shape into a ball then bake in the oven. Lemon aioli is delicious and would be perfect for these as well.
Do you eat them plain or dip them into something? Making for my cooking club next week… Thank you!
You can serve them with tartar sauce or plain. Depends on how you like them.
Has anyone tried prepping this a day before and leaving them in the refrigerator before broiling? Would love to know if it worked and didnt alter the flavor?
Hi, planning my 60th b’day bash and wanted some help on preparing enough balls for 150 ppl.
Hi Sheron, I would prepare them then freeze. Day of the event heat them up until warm all the way through.
Can these be cooked in an airfryer?
I have not tried making them in the air fryer, but that is a fantastic idea! If you try it please let us know.
Yummy dish….
