What Kind of Corn is Used to Make Creamed Corn?
One of the great things about Creamed Corn is that is isn’t a fussy dish. You can use fresh sweet corn, frozen corn, or canned corn. I like to use frozen corn because I always have it on hand.
How Do You Thicken Creamed Corn?
In this recipe I used flour to thicken creamed corn. It is whisked together with milk and then combined with the other ingredients. As the milk and flour mixture heats up it will begin to thicken the dish.
Other recipes may use a bit of cornstarch as a thickener instead of flour.
How to Make Creamed Corn on the Stovetop:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Add the diced onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until they begin to soften.
- In a small bowl whisk together the milk and flour.
- Add the corn, black pepper, salt, heavy cream, and milk mixture. Continue to cook, stirring often, until the mixture begins to thicken. Approximately 5-7 minutes.
- Serve hot.
